Part-Time Technical Assistant - Photography

Job Description:

  • Open and close the lab
  • Checkout equipment to students
  • Oversee work study students
  • Oversee the digital labs
  • Oversee darkrooms
  • Maintain equipment

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BFA in Photography, New Media, or related field. Experience working or managing both digital and traditional darkrooms
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, print RIP software, and a color-managed digital workflow
  • Basic repair/maintenance skills and extreme proficiency with a wide variety of digital and film-based photographic media and equipment
  • Experience with making exhibition-quality photographic prints
  • Experience with Epson inkjet printers, Epson scanners, and Nikon and Hasselblad/Flextight film scanners
  • Experience with equipment checkout systems, service-desk management, and providing careful photographic technical advice to students
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to maintain and keep a clean, orderly photography lab from opening to closing.
  • A basic understanding of appropriate chemical handling and lab health-and-safety standards, while overseeing students to the same standards.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting information technologies and photo-specific digital processes and equipment
  • Openness and ability to adapt, integrate, and/or synthesize photographic and non-photographic processes
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to oversee student workers
