James Hamilton
Assistant Professor Adjunct
James Hamilton is a Stockholm based architect and co-founder of the architecture practice Atelier–Heyman Hamilton (AT–HH). In 2024, AT–HH were awarded the Young Swedish Architecture Prize for the extension and renovation of a 1970s catalogue home on Torö in the Stockholm Archipelago. Their work has been exhibited in contexts such as the Venice Biennale and the Modern Museum in Stockholm, as well as Archivo and Proyector in Mexico city, The Seoul Biennale and the Spanish Academy in Rome. AT–HH have received grants from The Swedish Arts Grants Committee and The Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts.
His work as an architect writer has been published in journals and books and conference proceedings including Mani-fest, Dezeen, Dwell, Architectural Digest, Arkitektur, Gestalten, and KRITIK and the International Conference on Adaptive Reuse. The Editions QNDMC/GRAM monograph “Heyman Hamilton 05”, documenting the work of AT–HH, was published in spring 2025.
Prior experience includes applied research, new construction, adaptive reuse, restoration, and urban planning with OMA in New York and the City of Melbourne’s Architecture and Design Department. Notable work includes OMA’s Cornell University Milstein Hall, as well as preservation and restoration of New York City public schools and libraries.
Educated at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, he also holds a postgraduate degree in art and architectural from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm.
