Artist and stage designer Marsha Ginsberg A’83, who is the 2025 Feltman Chair of Architecture, has been nominated for Best Scenic Design of a Play at this year’s 78th Tony Awards. The School of Art alumna received the 2025 Tony nomination for her design work on English, a play by Sanaz Toossi.
English takes place in an Iranian classroom where four Farsi-speaking adult learners practice for their English proficiency exams. To dramatize questions of identity and the linguistic complexity at the center of the play, Ginsberg designed a rotating box-like set, lauded by the New York Times for “offer[ing] changing perspectives on action.” The play won the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 2023 before making its Broadway debut this year.
As Feltman Chair in The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, Ginsberg taught the Spring 2025 seminar Crossings, which investigates the principles, aesthetics, and methodologies of lighting perception and design. She is an associate arts professor at New York University Abu Dhabi.
