Following the completion of the fall 2020 Thesis projects by the graduate students of The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, and in keeping with the annual tradition of presenting their work to the public, the School of Architecture is pleased to announce the exhibition A World of Many Worlds. Presented online (see www.coopergt2020.com) and as a physical installation, this exhibition synthesizes nine individual thesis projects, referencing the worlds in which they were created and those they aspire to build as a communal endeavor.

As the Foundation Building is currently closed to the public, the students will be exhibiting their work in the building’s exterior windows along Third Avenue, between 7th and 8th Streets. Each student is creating an installation in a single bay of windows. These individual atmospheres will collectively represent diverse project themes and methods of execution, while sharing the school’s work with the public.

COVID-19 has bifurcated the graduate architecture program resulting in a predominantly digital academic experience over the past year. Despite their physical separation, the graduate students—along with their peers in the undergraduate program—are continuing to invent new ways of working together in anticipation of a post-pandemic world of collaboration.



Participating students include Sally Chen, Yingxiao Chen, Giedre Darskute, Nien Ying Lin, Jamie Lindsey, Austin McInnis, Roni Schanin, Doosung Shin, and Qicheng Wu. 

This exhibition maintains another important tradition in the graduate architecture program, when the outgoing graduate students present their final Thesis projects to the incoming class. This will occur as a Zoom presentation on Wednesday, February 17th at 6:30pm. Zoom account registration is required, please register in advance here.

Additionally, an Anti-Racism in Thesis Workshop will take place on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 10:00am to 4:00pm. This event will continue ongoing work at The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture to decolonialize its curriculum and advance an anti-racist pedagogy. To learn more about this event, please click here.
