Infrastructure and New York City's Water, NYT April 4
POSTED ON: April 6, 2016
The New York Times turned to Kevin Bone, director of The Cooper Union Institute for Sustainable Design, for his perspective on what it reported on April 4 as Mayor Bill DeBlasio's decision to postpone completion of New York City's third water tunnel. The editor of Water-Works: The Architecture and Engineering of the New York City Water Supply and a professor at The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, Professor Bone told the Times, "You look back over the last 50 years, whenever there were fiscal pressures, the unseen world of the municipal water system is where weak city leaders turned to cut spending."
Then on April 5, the mayor announced that his staff had been in error and that the tunnel would, in fact, be completed on an accelerated schedule. The local cable news channel NY1 then got Professor Bone's take on that apparent reversal. [Note that NY1 video is only viewable by subscribers to New York's Time Warner Cable service.]
