President Sparks has appointed Hayley Eber AR'01 Acting Dean for the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, effective August 29, for the 2022-2023 academic year. Dean Eber has served as Associate Dean since 2019, an important leadership position within the School of Architecture. Hayley is principal of Studio Eber, an award-winning New-York based practice for architecture and design. She is a graduate of The Cooper Union and has been a member of the architecture faculty since 2007. Given these experiences, she is intimately familiar with life as a student and faculty member in the School of Architecture, the school’s pedagogy, and faculty governance.

Hayley’s leadership will shepherd the School of Architecture through this academic year as the Faculty Search Committee and President Sparks continue the search to name a leader with the vision and experience sought for this critical position.

Please extend your support and good wishes to Acting Dean Eber.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
