Professor Diana Agrest and Alumni Honored by The Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation

The Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation (BWAF) has announced the winners of its Built by Women New York City (BxW NYC) competition for structures and environments led by women working in architecture, landscape, engineering, and construction. Among the honorees are Architecture faculty Diana Agrest and alumni Toshiko Mori AR’76, Elizabeth Diller AR’79, Laurie Hawkinson AR'83 and Gia Mainiero AR'06. An awards ceremony will be held in January 2015 followed by an exhibit at the Center for Architecture in March to coincide with Women’s History Month.
The Melrose Community Center, 286 East 156th Street, Bronx, by Diana Agrest, Principal, Agrest and Gandelsonas Architects, was awarded in the Civic category.
The Poe Park Visitor Center, 2640 Grand Concourse, Bronx, by Toshiko Mori, Principal, Toshiko Mori Architect, was awarded in the Cultural category.
Elizabeth Diller, Principal, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, received awards in the Cultural category for the Alice Tully Hall and the Julliard School Renovation/Expansion, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Manhattan, and in the Landscape category for The High Line, Gansevoort Street to 34th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues, Manhattan.
Laurie Hawkinson, Partner, Smith-Miller+Hawkinson Architects, was awarded in the Civic category for the EMS Station 3, 501 Zerega Avenue, Bronx.
Claire Weisz, FAIA, Principal, WXY architecture + urban design | Gia Mainiero, AIA, Associate, Dattner Architects was awarded in the Civic category for the Department of Sanitation Garage and Salt Shed, 2 Bloomfield Street, Manhattan.
An exhibition of the works will be held at the Center for Architecture opening March 2, 2015. This event will kickstart a month-long BxW NYC exhibition at the Center for Architecture during Women’s History Month, with the support of the Women in Architecture committee of the AIA New York Chapter.
