Students Awarded Scholarships from Multiple Engineering Organizations

This spring, seven engineering students were awarded scholarships from three New York City metro civil engineering organizations: the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and American Society of Highway Engineers Scholarship (AHSE).

Scholarships sponsored by industry organizations and companies not only offer financial support to students but also represent an investment in the future of engineering. These scholarships play a vital role in fostering innovation, diversity, and excellence within the field. They provide access to education and recognize and reward academic achievement and leadership qualities among engineering students.

Georgios Stathopoulos CE’25 received the Thornton Tomasetti Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 and Lizelle Ocfemia EE’25 received the WSP Scholarship in the amount of $3,500 from the ACEC. Sreevarshini Karthikeyan CE’25 received several awards including the Langan Engineering, Environmental, Surveying, and Landscape Architecture, DPC Scholarship for $3,000, the 2024 Metropolitan Section Scholarship from the ASCE for $3,500, and the Arora and Associates Scholarship from the ASHE in the amount of $2,500. Matviy Zhachek CE’25 received the Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers Scholarship from the ACEC and Isabel Ma CE’25 received the Infrastructure Engineering, Inc., P.C. Scholarship, both for $2,500. Liki Hamakiotes CE’26 also received a 2024 Metropolitan Section Scholarship from the ASCE for $3,500, and lastly, Kanghyuk Lee CE’24 received the AECOM Scholarship from the ASHE in the amount of $2,500. “I am incredibly grateful and honored to have been chosen to be the recipient of the Infrastructure Engineering Inc. P.C. Scholarship through the ACEC New York Scholarship Program. As I continue to advance through my professional career as a civil engineer, I plan on contributing to the field of civil engineering to the best of my ability and I hope to, one day, be able to pay it back to the communities that helped me get to where I am today.” – Isabel Ma CE’25
