Tuition & Fees

2026 – 2027 Academic Year 

Undergraduate Tuition
  • The cost of tuition at The Cooper Union for the 2026 – 2027 academic year is $44,550. Each admitted student receives a half-tuition scholarship valued at $22,275 per year. 
     
  • The part-time tuition per credit is $1,310. Part-time students will not receive any institutional aid including half-merit scholarships, tuition assistance, institutional grants, the Innovator Scholarship, and other scholarships.

Graduate Tuition
  • School of Architecture: The Master of Science in Architecture program is a three-semester program. All admitted students will be assessed tuition at the rate of $28,225 per semester.
     
  • School of Engineering: Students in the Master of Engineering program are charged $1,665 per credit; 30 credits total needed for the program.
Summer Tuition 
Fees
  • A mandatory student registration fee of $1,135 per semester will be charged to each student’s account. This fee is payable on acceptance of admission or registration and is nonrefundable.
Health Insurance Fees

International Student Fee
  • International students (those who are not citizens or who are not permanent residents) are responsible for an additional nonrefundable fee of $1,005 per semester.
Graduation Fee
  • A graduation fee of $250 is required of all students entering their first semester of their undergraduate/graduate senior year at The Cooper Union. This fee is payable upon registration for the senior year and is refundable if a student fails to meet graduation requirements that year.
Special Fees
  • A $100 late fee will be charged for past due payment each month.
  • A $25 fee will be charged for every change of section and/or registration program.
  • A fee of $100 will be incurred for late registration.
  • A $50 fee will be charged for returned payment, canceled checks, and insufficient funds.
Graduate Student Maintenance of Matriculation Fee
  • Master’s students who extend their studies beyond the expected program length, five years or four semesters after declaring the thesis track, will be assessed a maintenance of matriculation fee of $3,000 per semester. Students must be granted an extension of matriculation and fill out the appropriate form, available on the Engineering School website forms page, to continue in the program past the expected program length.

  • 0% Tuition Refund: Anytime on or after September 25, 2025

Be advised that the student registration fee of $1,135 is non-refundable after Thursday, August 28 and is not subject to the partial refund policy.

Spring 2026:

  • 100% Tuition Refund: Wednesday, January 21 - Wednesday, January 28, 2026
  • 50% Tuition Refund: Thursday, January 29 - Thursday, February 5, 2026
  • 25% Tuition Refund: Friday, February 6 - Friday, February 13, 2026
  • 0% Tuition Refund: Anytime on or after February 14, 2026

Be advised that the student registration fee of $1,135 is nonrefundable after Wednesday, January 21 and is not subject to the partial refund policy.

Summer 2026: 

  • Schedule changes and necessary program alteration may be accommodated with a fee during the add/drop period, which is June 1- June 3 for sessions A and B
  • After the add/drop period there is a $25 fee for withdrawing from courses (no courses may be added)
  • The first day of summer 2026 term is June 1
  • After June 3, the last day to withdraw from classes is June 10 for session A and the last day to withdraw from session B is July 21; there will be a $25 fee for each transaction
  • Students who register in April but have not paid their balance by June 3 will be deregistered from all courses on June 3
