Friday Mini-Course Online Workshop Series

What It Is: These online workshops invite participants to focus on specific aspects and genres of writing. Each two-hour workshop introduces the field, presents students with a series of strategies and approaches, provides students hands-on experience with methods, and offers a range of resources to help support students in the future.

Who Can Attend: Whether you’re participating in our three-week Summer Writing Program or not, you’re invited to join us for a workshop series or individual workshops.

Where and How: Loosely organized into linked series, students can sign-up for a three-part course or for à la carte workshops.

Who Teaches the Workshops: Instructors are experienced college teachers with expertise in their workshop topic. Each instructor is familiar with the Cooper Union method specifically designed for students with diverse learning styles. The workshops are intended to be primers for the type of material and expectations students can expect at the college level.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
