SPILL, 2009 a new film by Dennis Adams will have its American premiere at the San Francisco Museum of of Modern Art as part of "How Wine Became Modern/Design+Wine 1976 to Now." The exhibition is curated by Henry Urbach and developed in collaboration with architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro. The exhibition also includes projects by Zaha Hadid, Gehry Partners, Steven Holl, Herzog & De Meuron, Thomas Ruff and the architect-artist team Micheal Gravesand Edward Schmidt, among others. Adams has written and directed a film based on a walk that he made through the city of Bordeaux. The film was produced for the 2009 Bordeaux Biennale. Wearing a white linen suit and a small body camera, the film tracks Adams cautiously carrying a glass of red wine (filled to the rim) as he traverses the diverse urban landscapes of the city. As the motion of his walk creates accidental spillings of the red wine on his white linen suit, we hear Adams' internal monologue as he raves on about the history and character of Bordeaux against his own emerging anguish. In trying to uncover the city's story, the artist also tells a tale of his own psychic fragility.
