JOB SUMMARY

The Mechanic position is a full-time position. Under general direction, performs work of beginner level in the journey-level performance of building maintenance to include the primary fields of drywall and ceiling repair; painting; carpentry; plumbing, etc.; and performs other tasks as assigned. Specific responsibilities will be determined by the Facilities Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist Engineers with daily operational & emergency duties at all campus sites working on all minor electrical systems, HVAC systems, building plumbing systems, carpentry, lock systems, and other facilities associated systems not noted.

Performs basic building maintenance / repairs, such as: Replace lamps and lighting ballasts, Repair leaky faucets, or replace as necessary, Patch and paint damaged walls, Adjust door closers,   Occasional overtime, such as after-hours and/or weekends, is required

Performs all assignments in accordance with Cooper Union approved procedures.

Meets all Cooper Union quality expectations in assigned tasks.

Adherence to industry safety standards and requirements of Cooper Union is required at all times.  All other duties as assigned.  

Must possess required C.O.F within the 1st year of acceptance (ex: FDNY S-95/S-12/S-13/T-89)    

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

Availability for occasional overtime, such as after-hours and/or weekends

Must possess a courteous and patient demeanor, while exemplifying a can-do attitude

Understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral form

Must be able to understand and read electrical schematics  

Must have good computer skills

Excellent customer service skills

2-4 years of experience with hands-on related services outlined in this job description

EDUCATION   
A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

I -2 years' experience required
