Al Trujillo

Al Trujillo became president and chief operating officer of The Georgia Tech Foundation, Inc. on July 1, 2013. The mission of the Georgia Tech Foundation to foster and manage gifts given in support of academic excellence in the spirit and traditions of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Prior to his appointment, Trujillo was an active trustee of The Georgia Tech Foundation and past chairman of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association. He is currently on the Georgia Tech Arts Advisory Board.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Trujillo had a career in industry, both in executive and non-executive director roles. He currently serves as chair of the Audit Committee of Havertys Corporation, a NYSE listed company (HVT) in the furniture retailing industry. Trujillo previously served on the board of SCANA Corporation, a NYSE listed energy-based holding company (SCG).

Until 2007, Trujillo served as the president and chief executive officer of Recall Corporation, a global document management organization with operations in 23 countries. Previous experiences include leadership positions in the municipal and industrial waste industries, as well as engineering roles in the aerospace industry early in his career. Relative to public service, Trujillo served on the board of the Georgia Lottery Corporation, whose main mission is to generate financial support for State of Georgia Hope Scholarship Program. Trujillo is an emeritus board member of the Marist School in Atlanta.

Trujillo emigrated from Cuba as an infant after the Communist revolution, and grew up in South Florida, attending public elementary schools and Belen Jesuit High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Georgia Tech, graduating summa cum laude in 1981. He completed his graduate engineering education and M.B.A. at Stanford University.

Trujiilo and his wife Melba, a librarian, have two daughters. Amanda is a healthcare IT consultant and a graduate of Clemson and Duke University. Jacqueline earned her computer science degree from Georgia Tech and is an IT consultant.
