Online Registration 2020

Online registration via Student Self-Service for Summer 2020 and Fall 2020 is open through May 4. Please note that the registration period has been extended to allow additional time for planning given the disruptions of the coronavirus pandemic. Please read the information below that will help inform your selections for summer and fall registration.

Summer 2020

With extended stay-at-home orders in place in many states, including New York, we have made the decision that all undergraduate summer courses will be conducted online. The Pass/No Credit grading system will also extend to summer classes.

Fall 2020

As you know, there continues to be no way to know for certain when mandatory closures will be lifted. Given that, we are actively planning and preparing for a number of scenarios for the fall semester to continue engaging our students in a rigorous education focused on discovery and exploration, no matter the circumstances.  For the purpose of registering for fall classes now, we ask that you build your class schedule as you would for an in-person, at-Cooper semester.  If, given the directives and guidance of public health experts and New York state and city governments, we are unable to reopen campus in time for the fall semester, you will have the ability to change your course registration if a continued campus closure impacts your class selection. As always, our priorities will continue to be focused on the educational mission of The Cooper Union and protecting the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff.

Registration will start at 9 a.m. on different days, depending on your class level.  The registration period will end for all students at 11:59 p.m. on May 4.  If in the Fall you will be a(n):

  • Master’s student, or Senior in all schools, your registration began Tuesday, April 21.
  • Art Junior, Engineering Junior, or a Third or Fourth-Year Architecture Student, your registration begins today, Wednesday, April 22.
  • Architecture, Art, or Engineering Sophomore, your registration begins on Thursday, April 23.

The Office of Enrollment

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
