Sean Suchara is a multi-passionate working artist from Long Island, New York and the lead-illustrator for the New York Review of Architecture. For 3+ Sean has produced over 100 illustrations of the NYRAT, a playful character living out the various qualms of the built environment as told by NYRA's contributing authors. Behind this humanizing storybook inspired character is Sean's long running visual practice centered on preserving the raw naive energy of early childhood creativity and building bridges to his audience in the face of inaccessible policy, zoning laws and tight margins. Similar to this character Sean lives a life of many hats including working across branding, publications and civic design residencies, as a designer, illustrator and art director. Most recently Sean was rewarded a NYSCA grant for his project Drawing Quest, a collaboration with fellow illustrator Kelly Belter that seeks to create accessible tools for drawing and ideating through the blending of pedagogical frameworks with tabletop roleplaying games.
The lecture will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Belinda Lin.
The Diane Lewis Student Lecture Series is endowed by Elise Jaffe + Jeffrey Brown.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
