MTA Arts & Design Features Artwork by Saturday Program's José Ortiz
POSTED ON: May 1, 2026
Work by Saturday Program director José Ortiz is now in motion on MTA subway and Metro-North railroad cars as part of the MTA Arts & Design program’s latest Poetry in Motion series. Ortiz’s artwork Many Trails, which can be found at the 183rd Street station on the 4 train, is being paired with the poem Tiburón by the award-winning poet Martín Espada, who currently serves as professor of English at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
The Poetry in Motion piece will be on both digital screens throughout the MTA system and printed posters on rail cars for several months beginning in May 2026. In addition to his work in arts education with the Saturday Program, Ortiz is a multimedia artist whose practice spans painting, public art, and curatorial work.
