Welcoming Our New Vice President for Enrollment
Dear Cooper Union,
Last year, Mark Campbell, who has served as Cooper Union’s vice president for enrollment since 2019, shared with President Laura Sparks his decision to step down from his post. He was gracious with his time, offering to stay until a new head of enrollment could be selected. With thanks to Mark, I can report that we have conducted and completed a national search, and I am thrilled to announce that Troy Cogburn will be joining The Cooper Union as the new vice president for enrollment as of Oct. 21, 2024. Troy will have responsibility for admissions, financial aid, international student management, and the registrar’s office.
Troy comes to us with more than 15 years of proven leadership in higher education enrollment management, with a strategic focus on recruiting and supporting undergraduate, graduate, transfer, and veteran students, and adult learners. Most recently, he served as vice president for enrollment and marketing at Manhattanville University where he led a team of 20 in undergraduate, graduate, and transfer admissions, financial aid, and student account services including billing, registration, and financial services. He has also worked in enrollment services at Marymount University and Manhattan College. In 2023, Troy was recognized by the Business Council of Westchester as a 40 under 40 Rising Star for his collaborative and responsive leadership and mentorship in higher education.
The admissions landscape is complex and ever changing, particularly in recent years given developments that range from the overhaul of FAFSA to the 2023 Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action. Troy is adept at anticipating and managing through change and has long been an advocate for ensuring that underserved and underrepresented students have access to education, both in his direct enrollment experience and through work with the New York Commission for Independent Colleges and Universities on their One2One Workshop for Young Men of Color.
As we look forward to welcoming Troy to Cooper, I also want to extend our gratitude to Mark for the work he has led together with his staff. This transition to new leadership comes at a time of positive momentum: The Cooper Union’s enrollment position is strong as application numbers have increased across all three schools in recent years, and our admissions profile remains consistent with those of highly selective institutions. Our thanks again to Mark for his many contributions during his time at Cooper and for his work in conjunction with Troy to help ensure a seamless transition.
With thanks,
Malcolm King
