The Media Lab is full-service computer lab and classroom space open to the students, faculty, and staff of all Cooper Union programs. The lab provides Apple desktop computers running macOS and Windows platforms, each featuring a full array of software for work in graphic design, video and animation, coding and programing, 3D design, and more. The Media Lab also offers scanning, printing, and 3D tools to further student research and projects. The lab is staffed by a dedicated team of professional staff and student workers; all lab staff are available to offer support and advice with the software and hardware platforms we offer.

Medium Format Printing 

Epson SureColor P800 

High-quality 8-ink inkjet printer that prints on a wide variety of media. Accepts sheets up to  17x22”.  This is a self-service printer, students supply their own paper. 

Large Format Printing 

Epson 5270 & 7270 (36” & 44” inch color inkjet printers) 

These inkjet plotters produce quick large-scale images drawing, drafts, and posters. 

Epson 5270 media (36”): Vellum, Matte Film, Clear Film, Backlight Film 

Epson 7270 media (44”): Single-weight Matte Paper, Double-weight Matte Paper, Glossy Photo Paper (170), Matte Polypropelene 

Epson P9570

This 12-ink large format inkjet printer produces archival print in full RGB gamut on roll and sheet media up to 44” wide.  

Scanning 

Epson V850 Flatbed scanners 

Designed to capture high-fidelity scans film, photographs, and artworks. Can capture up to 6400 DPI with a 8.5" x 11.7" scanning bed 

Film formats: 35mm slides, 35mm film strips, medium format,  4" x 5" 

Epson 12000XL & 10000XL Flatbed scanners 

Ideal for artwork and photos that are too large for the V850. Can capture up to 4800 DPI with a 12.2" x 17.2" scanning bed 

Epson 5270 Large Format Scanner

This roll scanner can load documents up to 36” wide in color or black and white at up to 600 DPI. 

Note: all hand-drawn images must have fixative applied to prevent damage to the scanner.
