Cooper Union Official Social Media

The accounts listed below are The Cooper Union's official social media accounts. Each one has been approved by the dean or vice president responsible for that area and registered with the Office of Communications under the college's Social Media Postings Policy

We publish this list so that students, families, alumni, employees, and the public can tell at a glance which accounts speak for a Cooper Union school, department, program, or office — and which do not. If an account claims to represent The Cooper Union and is not listed here, it is not an official account.

Many social media accounts reference The Cooper Union without being official accounts. Under the Social Media Postings Policy, unofficial accounts include any profile, page, or record not authorized, managed, or verified by the college. Examples of unofficial accounts include:

  • Accounts run by student clubs and organizations recognized by the Joint Activities Committee. These groups are recognized by the college and student-managed; they speak for themselves, not for the institution.
  • Personal accounts belonging to students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
  • Accounts representing alumni groups, informal community pages, and other unregistered groups not subject to institutional oversight.

Unofficial accounts may not use college titles, logos, or other institutional identifiers in ways that could reasonably be read as official college communications, and community members may not express opinions on behalf of The Cooper Union unless expressly authorized to do so.

Personal-account conduct that violates the Student Code of Conduct or the Employee Handbook remains subject to the applicable disciplinary process.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
