Welcome from the Dean of Students - June 14, 2021
Welcome to the Cooper Union Family!
Congratulations on your acceptance into The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art! On behalf of the staff in the division of Student Affairs, I am pleased to welcome you to the Cooper Union community.
We are overjoyed to be able to welcome you to campus in-person later in August. It has been a difficult time for all of us, and as we begin to turn to the next chapter, we’re so grateful to be welcoming you into our family. We truly cannot wait to welcome you to Cooper Square.
New Student Health Forms
The deadline for submitting student health forms was June 5, 2021. If you have not yet submitted your forms, please be in touch with us as soon as possible. Students cannot come to campus and your course enrollment may be delayed if these forms are not completed. Since all staff are continuing to work remotely throughout the summer, the most efficient way to submit your forms is by emailing them to Eric Conley, Administrative Manager for Student Affairs, at email@example.com. If absolutely necessary, forms may also be mailed to our office or faxed, but they will not be reviewed until we are able to physically retrieve them. Rest assured that mailed in forms will be processed but there may be a delay. We encourage you to submit your forms as soon as possible. Any questions about the health forms can also be directed to Eric.
COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing
We are in the process of finalizing plans and requirements for COVID-19 vaccination and/or campus testing for the fall. A formal announcement to the campus, including new students and families, will be made as soon as these plans are finalized. While our plans are being finalized, we continue to strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated.
Our housing application is live. If you are interested in housing and have not yet applied for housing, you should do so here. The housing team will be in regular communication with students who are engaging with the housing application process. Questions about housing should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Undergraduate Orientation and New Student Welcome Week
We are hard at work planning for a robust Orientation experience for you! We will be communicating with you throughout the summer to start preparing you for your studies at Cooper Union and for the new experiences and relationships you’ll be building.
SAVE THE DATE - New Student Welcome Week - August 24, 2021, through August 29, 2021. Welcome Week will be an in-person series of workshops, experiences, and social engagements to prepare you for the start of this new adventure! While not technically mandatory, attendance at our Welcome Week activities is strongly encouraged. You will meet key faculty, staff, and peers throughout this week and build bonds and friendships that will last throughout your time at Cooper Union and beyond. We will be hosting in-person and virtual Parent Orientation Sessions on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 - details will be forthcoming.
Starting the week of July 12th, we'll be sending you weekly New Student Newsletters to help you prepare for your arrival on campus in late August. Our Welcome Week program will build off the materials provided over the summer. All of this is designed to help provide you with the tools, resources, skills, and connections that you’ll need when you officially join our community in late August.
Please be on the lookout for the first weekly New Student Newsletter on Monday, July 12, 2021.
Orientation information will be updated on our Orientation website that you can find here.
Graduate students: You will receive information directly from your academic program and/or graduate advisor with details about welcoming you into your programs.
Please note that this message is being sent to all new students and their families / parents. All future communications to students will only be sent to your cooper.edu email address. It’s very important to check your cooper.edu email regularly as you will receive all official communication there.
I hope this brief update is useful. Additional information will be coming soon! I also hope you are proud of your accomplishments and inspired by all that is ahead of you.
Thinking of you all!
