Typographics 2022

Typographics 2022, presented by Type@Cooper and the Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography, was held at The Cooper Union this month. The festival celebrated its eighth year and was held in-person for the first time since 2019, although the interactive TypeLab ran as a combination of in-person events in New York and online events held around the globe.

Here are images from the first day of the main stage conference featuring speakers like 1985 School of Art alumnus Abbott Miller as well as Anthony Bryant, Mindy Seu, Donna Payne, Shivani Parasnis, and Rosie Garschina, among others. Once again Mike Essl A'96, dean of The Cooper Union School of Art; Barbara Glauber, the Spring 2022 Cooper Union Frank Stanton Chair in Graphic Design; Ellen Lupton A'85, senior curator of contemporary design at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum; and Alexander Tochilovsky A'00, curator of Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography, curated the main stage.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.
