Join the Cooper Union Real Estate, Construction, and Design (RECD) Affinity Group for a special behind-the-scenes hard hat tour of the largest office-to-residence conversion in U.S. history at 25 Water Street, located in the Financial District of NYC. This renovation will transform 1.1 million square feet of office space into 1,300 rental units, with an additional 10 stories being built above the existing structure, resulting in a 32-story residential building. The façade will also be redesigned to feature more expansive glass.

The tour is being led by Brian Steinwurtzel and colleagues. Brian is a Cooper trustee and Co-CEO of GFP Real Estate, a partner for the renovations occurring at 25 Water Street.

Afterwards, there will be a happy hour with fellow alumni, students, and friends of Cooper at The Lafayette Hideout Bar at Fraunces Tavern from 5-7 PM. Appetizers will be provided, and a cash bar available.

Space for the tour is limited, so please register early to secure your spot. If you can’t make the tour, you are welcome to join us for the happy hour.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
