Curator Omar López-Chahoud will speak in a free, public lecture about his recent involvement with the Nicaraguan Biennial. Omar will focus on the role and mission of the Nicaraguan Biennial, which he describes as “developing Nicaraguan artists so that they have the profile to make art professionally and on a long-term basis, developing Nicaraguan cultural awareness so that it can have a global platform, encouraging visitors to Nicaragua that can add to that dialogue, and promoting peace and cultural prosperity in the Americas and globally.”

Omar López-Chahoud has been the Artistic Director and Curator of UNTITLED. since its founding in 2012 and will lead the curatorial team of UNTITLED. 2014. As an independent curator, López-Chahoud has curated and co-curated numerous exhibitions in the United States and internationally. Most recently, he curated the Nicaraguan Biennial in March 2014. López-Chahoud has participated in curatorial panel discussions at Artists’ Space, Art in General, MoMA PS1, and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. He is currently a member of the Bronx Museum Acquisitions Committee. López-Chahoud earned MFAs from Yale University School of Art, and the Royal Academy of Art in London.

Omar López-Chahoud appears as part of the Interdisciplinary Seminar, created as a discussion series on artistic practice for the students of the Cooper Union School of Art and the creative community that surrounds them. Lectures are free and open to the public.
