Applications are closed for the winter session. To be notified via email when spring and summer applications open, complete the STEM Interest Form.
This special winter session meets four times. In each class, students learn design thinking and skills needed to complete projects.
Redesigning Plastic Recyling: Create design for new products using recycled plastic and learn Computer-Aided Design (CAD) plus 3D printing.
Intro Robotics with Python: Program a microcontroller using Python and create algorithms to make a robot move and interact with its environment.
Musical Instrument Design: Explore the science of musical instrument design and learn Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and laser cutting to create a stringed instrument.
Classes meet Saturdays, January 20, January 27, February 3 and February 10, 2024 at 41 Cooper Square. All classes start at 10 am and end at 4 pm.
Students can apply if they:
- Live in New York City
- Are currently in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade
- Are low or moderate income (See 2023 NYC Area Median Income)
Priority given to students with no prior experience in engineering and no access to engineering at their school.
Women and individuals who identify with groups historically excluded from STEM careers, including Black, Latino/a, LGBTQ+, and Neurodiverse people, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applications due December 13, 2023.
Students are required to attend all class meetings. Students that miss more than one class for any reason, including illness, will be moved to the spring or summer program.
