Parametric Design with Grasshopper
This course introduces the history, theory and application of Parametric Design for production. It focuses on the underlying concepts and mechanisms for creating performance-based parametric systems. The principle platform is the parametric modeling plug-in Grasshopper for Rhino 3-D with additional supporting plug-ins and add-ons as required. Students learn the overall structure of parametric modeling systems and acquire fluency in visual programming environments. They also gain experience in the embedding of design knowledge into a parametric model and in the use of appropriate parametric techniques for conveying formal elements of the design process. Parallel lectures and technical sessions develop a library of parametric modules based on actual professional practice. The final course submission will consist of the analysis. Participants are encouraged to contribute to an online forum.
Meets Weekly: Tuesdays 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
