New Students

To All Our New Students:

Congratulations on your decision to attend Cooper Union! We look forward to your active participation in New Student Orientation and beyond that, in Fall Festival/Constitution Day on September 10, 2013, where you can meet the officers of all the student clubs and hear about the activities they are planning for the fall.

Please plan to be an active citizen at Cooper Union. Take a close look at the Orientation schedule and plan to join us in as many events as possible. Take a few minutes this summer to ponder how you plan to conduct yourself as an adult responsible for your own good health because personal habits play an enormous role in your success in college.

We have compiled a list of helpful websites that address issues students often face.
Make sure that you understand who your physician is and how to use your medical insurance, and if you are under 18, be sure to bring a letter with you with your parent or guardian’s consent that you can have emergency medical treatment.

The whole Cooper Union community awaits your imminent arrival.

Student Services

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
