Q: How many guest tickets do I receive? Where do I get them?
A: Guests must have tickets to enter the Great Hall for the commencement exercises. During commencement rehearsal, each graduate is given three tickets to distribute to his or her guests. Tickets are not required to attend the receptions in honor of the graduating class.
Q: When do I receive my diploma?
A: Diplomas are presented to the graduates during the commencement ceremony. Students who do not plan to attend the commencement ceremony may make arrangements with the Office of Admissions and Records, 30 Cooper Square, 3rd Floor, NY, NY 10003 to pick up their diplomas or have the diploma mailed to them.
Q: When is the commencement rehearsal?
A: Commencement rehearsal will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 in the Great Hall. Guest tickets, final transcripts, and caps and gowns will be distributed during this rehearsal, at which student attendance is mandatory. Candidates should line up at 10:00 AM on the second floor in the Foundation Building. Rehearsal will begin in the Great Hall at 10:30 AM.
Q: When do the doors open for the ceremony?
A: The Great Hall opens at 9:15 a.m.
Q: Is the commencement ceremony videotaped? Are copies available?
A: You may order a DVD of the entire commencement ceremony from Paul Tummolo, Director of Audio-Visual Resources, by calling 212-353-4264 or sending him a an email or a letter (Computer Center Room 811, 41 Cooper Square, New York, NY, 10003). Each DVD costs $40 including shipping, payable by a check made out to The Cooper Union.

A: Yes, the ceremony will be webcast. Please visit the main commencement page at the time of the ceremony (10:30 AM, May 29, 2013) to view the live webcast from your browser.

Q: How long is the Commencement ceremony?
A: The commencement ceremony generally lasts from 90-120 minutes, depending on how many graduates are present to receive their diplomas.
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: In case of inclement weather, the procession of the graduates is shortened so that they do not circle the Foundation building. The post-commencement reception is moved indoors but otherwise the ceremony proceeds as usual.
