Gwen Hyman studied theater and political science at York University, and literature at the University of Toronto. She earned her PhD in English at Columbia University. Her teaching and publications focus on literature in English in the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries, writing, gender studies and food studies. She is the author of Making a Man: Gentlemanly Appetites in the Nineteenth-Century British Novel (Ohio) and co-author, with Andrew Carmellini, of Urban Italian (Bloomsbury) and American Flavor (Ecco).
