APPLICATION & DEADLINES
ELIGIBILITY AND ADMISSIONS CRITERIA
This program is open to either current high school sophomores or juniors spending the summer in the Greater NYC area. Admission to the program is selective. We are looking for high-achieving students who have a passion for the STEM fields. These characteristics should be apparent in their transcript, personal essay, and letter of recommendation from a teacher in the STEM fields or a guidance counselor.
Note: Acceptance or rejection to the Cooper Union Summer STEM Program does not affect entrance to Cooper Union’s undergraduate program.
All application materials (main application, essay, transcript, letter of recommendation, and non-refundable application fee of $50) should be submitted though the online application.
A copy of your most current transcript must be submitted as a part of your application.
Letter of Recommendation
One letter of recommendation is required. It is the student’s choice whether this recommendation comes from their math or science teacher or their advisor or guidance counselor. It is the responsibility of the student to follow up with their recommender to make sure they submit their letter on time.
The essay is a portrait of you and should reflect what you feel is important for us to know about you. Limit your essay to around 500 words. Please do not submit any school work such as lab reports, homework assignments, etc.
Optional: If you have taken the PSAT or SAT, you may include official copies of your scores.
Application deadline is March 7th, 2014. All related materials (including your recommendation letter) must be submitted by that date as well. Late or incomplete applications will NOT be considered.
Your application will be reviewed by the Program Admissions Committee. You will be notified by email (no phone calls please) as to our decision. We ask that you do not accept our offer unless you are certain you want to attend. See the Tuition and Financial Aid link for withdrawal penalties and tuition details.
All decisions are final.
Students who have been accepted will be invited to an Open House (date and time TBA) at The Cooper Union where the program administrator and faculty will discuss the program and research projects. Attendance to the Open House is mandatory.
