Steven Hillyer received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from The Cooper Union in 1990. He has participated in the design, installation and curatorship of thirty exhibitions presented by The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, both at The Cooper Union and abroad. Additionally, he has been involved in the fabrication of seventeen publications produced by the Architecture Archive, in capacities ranging from production coordination and assistance to design supervision and editorial work. Hillyer has been Director of the Architecture Archive since 2004.
Aside from his work at The Cooper Union, Hillyer is an award winning screenwriter / playwright / producer and co-founder of New York City based Arkanjel Productions with creative partner Tim Marback. Their first feature film, The Event, starring Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis, Sarah Polley and Parker Posey, premiered at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival and was released domestically and internationally. Hillyer is currently developing the feature film Just Four Little Letters, which explores the topical issue of marriage equality within an intimate family drama. Olympia Dukakis is attached to play a leading role. Other current projects include The Spinsters, a sitcom about two sisters who are destined for trouble from the moment they decide to buy a house together; The Moretti Murders, a television event series about one of the largest political scandals to hit the city of Chicago; and Boston Corbett, the untold story of the man who killed John Wilkes Booth. Hillyer is also developing Mend, a play he and Marback will present in the form of a staged reading at the Cotuit Center for the Arts in March, 2014. He recently completed several episodes for the web series CapeHouse, which he co-directed and edited.
