Summer Writing Program: Online

Imagine

A writing class without grades. A class where an enthusiastic and experienced teacher makes writing interesting. Where the expectations of college-level writing are presented clearly and concretely and you learn the techniques and approaches you need to write analytically. Where there’s plenty of time to practice new skills and see how they connect to strengths you already have. Where your teacher is in New York, and you and your fellow students are anywhere with WiFi.  That’s what you’ll find at the Cooper Union Summer Writing Program.

Hands-on Learning and Practice, Even in an Online Course

The best way to learn to write better is to learn new approaches and then practice them and get feedback. That’s why our online course uses web conferencing technology to offer a real-time virtual class. It’s one thing to read about how to write an analytical essay; it’s another thing entirely to practice the skills you need, interact with fellow students and the instructor, and get immediate feedback. It’s one thing to read college-level texts, it’s another to discuss them and learn how writing can help you generate and develop your ideas. All you need is internet access and a computer equipped with a camera and an audio microphone.

A Real-time Class with Online Flexibility

The unique Cooper Union Summer Writing Program combines the flexibility of online learning from anywhere with the benefits of a real classroom. Our instructors teach college-level writing and have experience working one-on-one with students.

In a typical class you’ll:

  • Discuss the day’s reading
  • Use writing to generate ideas and ask questions about what you’ve read
  • Learn how to build an analytical essay
  • Practice the skills you need to develop an argument

How much can you learn in three weeks?  You’ll be amazed. Register here.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
