The VP for Finance and Administration, who serves as the chief financial officer and treasurer at The Cooper Union, reports to the President, and has responsibility for a broad range of financial and business operations. 

The VP for Finance and Administration provides overall leadership and management of the Office of Finance and Administration, and is a part of the President’s Leadership Team and cabinet. The VP is charged with promoting positive outcomes for transformational changes at The Cooper Union. As a member of the institution’s leadership, the VP works with the senior academic leaders to plan and develop strategic initiatives and administrative policies.

The VP for Finance and Administration serves as a liaison to the Board of Trustees Finance & Business Affairs Committee, Audit Committee, and Investment Committee and provides support to the Executive Committee.

Responsibilities of the VP for Finance and Administration include financial strategy; controller functions (external reporting, taxes, payroll administration, accounts receivable, and accounts payable); treasury (cash, debt, and endowment management); budget and planning; financial systems development and maintenance; real estate contracts; internal decision support; and human resources (including union negotiations). The VP serves as the officer responsible for risk management operations, including all insurance coverage. The VP also has responsibility for coordinating with outside legal counsel and for coordinating with enrollment management regarding tuition and financial aid policies and procedures.

Through the budget director and controller positions, the VP for Finance and Administration develops the annual operating and capital budgets; provides detailed budget versus actual revenue and expense information by department, function, and project as required by officers and deans; produces the annual financial report; and generates specialized financial reports as needed. The VP provides accounting support of program or project proposals to external donors and granting agencies. The human resources director reports to the VP with responsibility for compensation tactics, benefits administration, and union contract guidance and negotiations.
