Job Description:
The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, Albert Nerken School of Engineering.
The Albert Nerken School of Engineering is perennially ranked among the nation’s top undergraduate engineering schools. It is comprised of four degree-granting departments: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. The School offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering, as well as the bachelor of science degree. Approximately 500 undergraduate and 50 graduate students are enrolled in engineering at Cooper Union and, since September 2009, have been housed in a new state-of-the-art academic building designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Thom Mayne.
Reporting directly to the President of The Cooper Union, the Dean is a member of the President’s Leadership Team and the Academic Leadership Team, playing a critical role in overall institutional planning and academic policy decisions.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for the position include an earned doctorate and a distinguished record of research and academic leadership, along with a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching, pedagogical innovation and skilled grantsmanship to support research. The dean will also work with the president and the development staff to increase philanthropic grants that support the Nerken School and institution-wide goals. This position presents an exciting opportunity to oversee the development and launch of new programs and initiatives.
