Daylighting Tibbetts Brook
The Institute is currently in conversation with the Department of Parks and Recreation in developing a daylighting project for Tibbett’s Brook, a wetland ecosystem just North of New York City. Restoration of this site has the potential to improve citywide storm-water management, rehabilitate at-risk natural systems and improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers.

Harbor Estuaries
We at CUISD do not believe that thriving marine ecosystems and economic development are mutually exclusive. Our revitalization plan for New York's harbor estuaries showcases three methods by which we can strengthen natural marine systems while encouraging a more sensible use of marine trade channels.

Green Roofs
Green roofs provide urban areas with a wide range of social, environmental and economic benefits. We are providing access and information for architects, builders, developers and building owners to take this important step toward sustainability.

Green Infrastructure
In 2011, the Institute worked with the Fourth Arts Block on an innovative project to improve the sidewalk infrastructure in the surrounding neighborhood of the Cooper Union campus. This project would enable a more intelligent management of storm water and provide other neighborhoods with a highly visible model of sustainable design.
