Petroleum, in its refined state, is one of the world’s most important commodities. It is the primary fuel source for vehicles, it is a heating fuel and it is used to produce electric power. It is also the base of many industrial chemicals, and is used as a raw material in the manufacturing of end-user goods such as plastic, polyurethane, solvent, detergent, wax and asphalt.
