Acrylic Painting Techniques

PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS TO THE FIRST CLASS:

Fabriano Studio water color paper 140 lb. cold press 22”x30” ($2 per sheet at Jerry’s) or something comparable in weight and price

ACRYLIC PAINTS-2 oz. tubes or larger (5 oz.)

Utrecht brand  - Very good

Golden - better but more expensive

Other good brands are Lukas, Winsor & Newton, Liquitex

Avoid Blick’s own brand (inferior)

COLORS

Ultramarine Blue

Phthalocyanine (phthalo) Blue

Hookers Green

Cadmium Yellow Medium  or  other golden yellow

Hansa Yellow   or   other lemon yellow

Cadmium Red Hue and/or Naphthol Crimson

Dioxazine Purple

Burnt Sienna (also look at Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, and Ochre - chose one that you like)

Titanium White  (most opaque, avoid  Zinc) - large tube 5 oz.

Black (many varieties; all are fine)

Optional

Alizarin Crimson - optional

Quinachridone Magenta (Golden brand)

BRUSHES

synthetic or blends are fine. Make sure they are labeled for acrylic paint.

2-3 “ wide cheap hardware store brush

1” wide flat brush

1/2 to 1” wide Filbert  or Bright

1/2” wide round brush

1 small pointed round

 

OTHER

Pad of disposable paper palettes

Metal Palette knife (chose a shape that interests you)

lots of cloth rags

Several large water containers

Newspaper or plastic sheet to cover work area
