Join us in furthering Peter Cooper’s mission of educating gifted students to make enlightened contributions to the cultural and scientific life of our great urban centers, and indeed, the world.

In so many ways, we all have benefitted from the education a Cooper Union student receives. Bob Kane, A’33, creator of the comic book hero, Batman, has entertained us for generations; Stanley Lapidus, EE’70, inventor of the ThinPrep Pap Test for the early detection of cervical cancer, has saved the lives of many women; Daniel Libeskind, AR’70, architect of the World Trade Center master plan, has balanced the sanctity of the space while rebuilding for the future;  and countless others have made a difference in our daily lives.

From funding essential scholarships, to supporting our outstanding faculty and participating in events—now, more than ever, we rely on your generosity to sustain the unparalleled education in art, architecture and engineering that is the hallmark of Cooper Union.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
